Muslin Changing Pad vs. Washable Changing Pad: What to Pick

Compare Sebra's muslin changing pad and washable underlay on fabric, fit, and waterproofing to decide which belongs at your baby changing station.
Quick answer
Choose the Sebra Care muslin changing pad for the surface your baby lies on during changes, and add the Sebra Sleep washable underlay beneath the sheet for overnight mattress protection. They solve different problems, so many setups benefit from both.
Fabric and feel: muslin softness vs. jersey with a waterproof membrane
The Sebra Care changing pads are made from six layers of certified organic cotton muslin, which gives them a soft, breathable feel against skin. The Sebra Sleep washable underlay pairs a soft jersey front with a waterproof polyurethane membrane on the back. That means the muslin pad is comfortable but not waterproof, while the washable underlay is designed to stop moisture from reaching the mattress.
Fit: changing pillow shape vs. crib mattress size
The two muslin changing pads are shaped with rounded corners to match the Sebra changing pillow, so they sit neatly on that surface. The washable underlay measures 70 x 120 cm and is designed to fit the Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr. during the baby stage. A changing pad 70x120 is a mattress protector, not a changing surface, so check which piece your station actually needs.
Reversible design and practicality
Each muslin changing pad is reversible, with Seabreeze Beige on one side and the Sophora Leaves print on the other, and the set includes two pads so one can be in use while the other is washed. The washable underlay is a single layer that goes on top of the mattress to extend its life and make middle-of-the-night accidents easier to handle. Neither product listing specifies a drying method or a maximum wash temperature, so follow the care label on the item you receive.
Key trade-offs
- Waterproofing: The washable underlay has a waterproof membrane; the muslin changing pads do not. If leaks are the main concern, the underlay is the protective layer.
- Comfort at change time: Six layers of muslin give a soft, breathable surface for nappy changes, while the underlay's jersey front is designed for mattress protection.
- Shape and placement: The muslin pads are cut to fit the Sebra changing pillow; the 70 x 120 cm underlay is cut for the baby stage of the Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr. Match the piece to the furniture it will actually sit on.
- Spare capacity: The muslin set includes two pads; the washable underlay is sold as a single item. Consider how often you wash and whether you need a second underlay.
