Sebra KIDchen Dishwasher: Imaginative Play Ideas

Quick answer

Use the Sebra KIDchen dishwasher to encourage open-ended, imaginative play. Follow these steps to turn washing dishes into a fun, educational activity.

Imaginative play steps

1. Set up the dishwasher together: Place the dishwasher on a low table or mat. Let your child open the pull-out shelves and arrange the included or similar toy dishes inside. Common mistake: overloading the shelves. Keep it simple so the child can manage the task. Check that your child can reach and operate the shelves easily.
2. Add a washing routine: Pretend to add soap (use a small empty container) and press the push-button to start. Turn the program knob to hear the click. Narrate the steps: 'Now we're washing the cups!' Common mistake: rushing the routine. Let your child lead the pace. Pause after each action to let your child imitate or add their own ideas.
3. Extend the play into a story: After 'washing,' have your child serve pretend meals or run a tiny cafe. Use the dishwasher as part of a larger kitchen setup. Common mistake: ending the play too soon. Encourage your child to 'dry' dishes with a cloth or sort them into categories. Ask open-ended questions like 'Who is coming for dinner?' to keep the story going.
